Mumble is an application of voice transmission through the IP protocol. It is no cost, has open code and multi platform, and its main users are those fanatic of the on-line games that use it to speak among them during their ludic sessions.
Mumble is based on a client-server architecture, where all the users that want to talk get connected to the same server.
The design of Mumble is simple and clear. Its interface graph is very simple, and the biggest effort and complexity is in improving more and more the quality of the sound, to get a flowed communication and where each speaker forms part of a real social net meeting, beyond the game in question.
To assure the privacy of the participants, Mumble has an encoded system of communication, since its 1.1 version.
Some other characteristics of Mumble that we should be mentioned are the low latency (time that you take in receiving the sign), the possibility to disable the echo, and an innovative function that makes that each player's voice comes from the place where its character is. This last option is just compatible with some games like Battlefield 2, and it is necessary to have installed a complement to activate it.
