ophcrack
ophcrack is an excellent free application to recover the Windows passwords that we have lost with re establishing capacity to recover them in 99% of cases.
As indicates its name, ophcrack cracks all Windows passwords based on "rainbow" charts (random characters base from where it’s possible to, through hard way, to decipher a password).
ophcrack has a small utility that allows to download a disk image (ISO) and to reconstruct it in a virtual disk from where one will be able to access with Live CD, to all passwords stored in the computer, finishing this way with the problems that we have with our operating system accounts.
Using ophcrack is simple and there are two ways of making it:
- Executing the application from the operating system desktop: If we are using Windows, we can look for all users account passwords "double clicking” it. It is Necessary to say that this method can be very slow. It has been known that there are cases in that characters combination process to decipher a password, has lasted five days.
- Executing the program from a part or some different hard disk from ours: It is desirable to use ophcrack through gathering a virtual disk or the separation of physical hard disk in cases we don't have access to the installed programs, this will depend that we are in 99% reliability range.
With this application we don't have to worry if we have lost or forgotten our Windows account’s password.
